Ingredients Required for Creamy Mashed Potatoes

1. In Australia make sure you start with the best potatoes such as Dutch Creams, creme Gold or CremeRoyale. Take 2 pounds (900g) of potatoes which should be peeled and cut into chunks.


2. Salted Water for boiling potatoes.

3. 4 tablespoons (56g) unsalted softened butter

Instructions to Prepare Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Step: 1 Preheat your sous vide water bath to 183°F (84°C).

Step: 2 Place the potato chunks in a vacuum-sealable bag or a sturdy, food-grade zip-top bag. Add the butter to the bag, ensuring it is evenly distributed among the potatoes. 

Step: 3 Seal the bag using a vacuum sealer or by using the water displacement method. To use the water displacement method, partially seal the bag and then slowly lower it into the water bath, allowing the pressure to push the air out of the bag. Once most of the air is removed, seal the bag completely.

Step: 4 Place the bag into the preheated water bath and cook the potatoes for 1 to 1.5 hours. The cooking time may be changed depending on the size of the potato chunks. The potatoes should be tender when pierced with a fork.

Step: 5 The potatoes are cooking till then you can warm the heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Do not let it come to a boil; you just want to warm it up.

Step: 6 Once the potatoes are done cooking, carefully remove the bag from the water bath and open it. Transfer the cooked potatoes to a large mixing bowl.

Step: 7 Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or a fork. Add the warm heavy cream slowly while mashing, until you achieve your desired texture. You can adjust the amount of cream depending on how creamy you want the potatoes to be more or less.


Step: 8 Season the mashed potatoes with salt and pepper to taste. Give it a final mix to ensure the seasoning is mixed and well-distributed in mashed potatoes.

Step: 9 Serve the sous vide creamy mashed potatoes immediately as a delicious side dish.
